  • Tine for reflection......

I'm a huge Stephen King fan - I've read virtually all his books, & those I havn't read are currently in a pile on my bedroom floor waiting to be read.
I'm currently reading Everything's Eventual which is a collection of short stories & is v. good.
I was on the train into London this morning reading one of the short stories and I read a really cool line in it that made me stop & think for a while so I thaught I'd share it with you. I can't remember exactly how it went but it was along the lines of....

"when you wake up each morning you've no idea of how much you're life may have changed before you go to bed that night"

Whilst on the subject of good lines from books, my favourite one is from Tess of the D'urbavilles.....(or however it's spelt!!).....

"Every year you celebrate your birthday whilst your death day slips quitely by each year unnoticed"

  • e-mails

    I've just checked my e-mail. It's the first time I've checked it in a week & I had 9 new messages - woo hoo I'm so popular I thought:>>
However, after looking in my inbox I had 3 items of junk mail (2 of which was the same mail from the same company claiming they'd seen my CV & wondered whether I'd like them to send me an info pack about them as they thought I am just the person they are looking for - yeah right! If they've seen my CV they must be psychic as I havn't applied for a new job in over 3 years and so there is no way that they could have just happened to have seen my CV!)
Five were from friends forwarding supposedly funny e-mails to me. (2 of which were the same & I'd seen it before already - although it is one of the few funny e-mails doing the rounds at the mo). It always annoys me when friends forward e-mails on to me that aren't funny, or are disgusting/offensive, or are those stupid chain letters which say you are going to suffer bad luck/your dreams won't come true/the world is going to end if you don't forward them on to 10 people. I have never forwarded these on to people & I'm still alive & well!
I've only ever forward on the genuinely funny e-mails, I just wish my friends would do the same rather than fill my inbox up with >:XX
The final e-mail was from Oxfam asking me to sign a petition asking Tony Bliar (that scumbag that is currently "running" our country) to request that he sticks to the make poverty history promises he made last year. If you are reading this then I recommend you go to the Oxfam website & sign it - it might encourage him to do one good thing before he hands power to Gordon Brown (whenever/if that ever happens).
Anyway, I guess the point I'm trying to make is that of 9 e-mails recieved over the course of a week there was only one that was of any use to me. I seem to spend more time deleting e-mails than actually reading them - I'm sure that whoever it was who invented e-mails didn't intend it to be used in this way?

  • Are careers worth it?

I'm writing this as I feel the need to have a rant......
It's the busiest time of the year at work at the moment and have loads of stuff which I need to get done to meet strict deadlines & I don't know how I'm going to manage to do it all.
I've been studying constantly since the age of 5 (school, uni & now accountancy exams) and have got to that point where I'm fed up with it.
I'm beginning to ask myself is it worth it? Working my guts off at work to try & impress the boss & move up the career ladder, spending all my evenings and weekends wading my way through accountancy text books, getting all worked up & stressed over exams, hardly having any free time to myself (& when I do get spare time I usually have stuff around the house to do or am too knackered to do anything fun).
Wouldn't life be so much easier stacking shelves in Tesco's....but then I suppose the grass is always greener on the other side (plus I'm only 5'1" and am quite weedy so would probably be a useless shelf stacker!)My job allows me to have a mortgage and buy a few luxuries (not that many though - I'm not head of finance ....yet!)but I don't have the time to enjoy them.
Life seems to be a vicious circle - you work hard to buy a house to enable you to have a family - you work hard to support said family - you then work hard so that you're kids can go to uni/travel the world/take driving lessons etc - you work hard to save for a pension - then (if you're lucky & make it that far) you retire and hobble around with your zimmer frame for a few years before you pop your cloggs.
There seems to be more and more pressure to have the huge house, the luxury car, designer clothes etc etc.... but we're all getting majorly stressed out in the process...
I ask again - is it worth it? I think those women who marry rich business men for their money might have the right idea.........

  • Expert blogger (almost!!!)

I'm very proud of myself as I have just uploaded a picture of me onto my blog. (with a lot of trial & error & stress!) I know you all probably think it's really easy to do but as I said in my last entry I'm a blog virin and am learning the ropes as I go along.
The photo was taken in Australia (I guess the koala is a bit of a give away!). Me & my boyfriend went there for a month 3.5 years ago (time flies!). We had the time of our lives and I would recommend it to everyone.
Thanks to all those who left comments on my last blog. They gave me a warm welcome to the blog world, lots of encouragement & made me smile! I accidently deleted some of the comments whilst playing with the editing function (I was being a bit reckless!!) so please don't be offended if you left a comment & it's not there now!
I hope you're all enjoying the weekend. I'm going for a meal tonight with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday (which is on Tuesday). He still doesn't know about the cake but he keeps wondering why I won't let him see my blog!

  • Hello World!!

Hi, I'm a blog virgin so if this blog is a bit shit then I apologise. As time progresses and I get more experience at this blogging lark then hopefully it will get better.
I've had a really crap day today. I've got golden circle tickets to see Bon Jovi in June & found out today that the concert has been moved from Wembley to Milton Keynes!!! The problem is, I've got my final accountacy exams 2 days after the concert so getting up to Milton Keynes & back means I won't have much time to do any last minute cramming. That means I'll probably fuck up my exams - but hey it's worth it for golden circle tickets. (I know it's sad that I'm a Bon Jovi fan, but hey, what can you do?)
Also, it's my boyfriends birthday next week. I baught him an expensive cake from Marks & Sparks. I had to shove it in my wardrobe so that he wouldn't see it and in the process managed to ruin the cake!
But hey that's life, shit happens etc etc....
